6 Best Mobile Phones
#01: Samsung Galaxy S8
Consult almost any list of the “must-have” smart phones for 2017, and this one tops it — and for good reason.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 boasts a 5.8-inch display, widely regarded as the sleekest and highest quality one on the market.
The reason why it’s so exciting? The screen is designed around Samsung’s “Infinity Display.” This option appears to bring video and images almost to the edge of the screen.
This allows for a more immersive viewing experience. Now, images and video are not contained within a boxed-in screen. Rather, the screen is transformed into an interactive and incredibly impressive display portal.
This year’s model also improves on the already-excellent camera, enhancing the selfie cam capabilities while also boosting the rear shooter. Its battery life is incredible, and performance is top-notch. It’s also dust and water resistant.
The fingerprint sensor has experienced readability issues. Also, the personal assistant, “Bixby” is not fully operational. Yet, overall, this is one model worth the investment — and the hype.
#02: Apple iPhone 7 Plus
The latest iPhone is built to perform.
For one, the Apple iPhone 7 Plus is also water resistant, like the S8. This is one of those features you don’t know you need until you find yourself with a soaked phone desperately trying to bring it back to life.
With this model, that worry’s eliminated.
Also, of all the new mobile phones available, the iPhone7 Plus offers arguably the sleekest, slickest usability. Its battery life is improved over the 6S Plus, and it also features not one, but two cameras.
Yet, for all the features it added, Apple opted to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack on this model. This is in keeping with today’s trend of wireless headphones. So, before you invest, make sure you’ve got a pair handy.
#03: Samsung Galaxy S8+
For a deeper investment, upgrading to the Samsung Galaxy S8+ allows users to enjoy an even more impressive viewing experience.
This model retains many of the features of the Samsung Galaxy S8. Yet, the Plus version expands on several capabilities, adding extra functionality and viewing space. The chief way the two models differ is in their display size.
The Samsung Galaxy S8+ offers a 6.2-inch Infinity Display, expanding on the S8’s 5.8-inch version.
Yet, it features a lower number of pixels per inch, coming in at just 529 versus the S8’s 570. That said, it retains its excellent sharpness despite the change.
Overall, it’s a big and hefty phone but delivers on quality. Before making the leap, however, it’s worth a test run to make sure it’s a good fit. One thing to check? Make sure the fingerprint reader isn’t too tall to reach comfortably.
#04: Motorola Moto Z
Marketed as the world’s thinnest phone, the Motorola Moto Z offers an impressive punch in terms of functionality.
Its line-up of modular accessories allows you to transform the phone into myriad tools. You can turn it into a projection system for live streaming, a louder-than-average boombox, and an industry-leading camera with 10x optical zoom.
In fact, Motorola’s wireless handset accessories were recently honored by the Consumer Technology Association as a Best of Innovation Honoree for CES 2017.
While its battery size is slightly less than its peer competitors, this is one of the new mobile phones that provides almost unlimited potential when it comes to innovation.
#05: Google Pixel
This 5-inch Android phone couldn’t be hotter.
The Google Pixel features a signature AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. It includes an HD display, offering superb viewability. In addition, what makes this one of our top mobile phones is its first-rate camera and its integrated Google Assistant.
If you’re ready to change to a new Android that’s fresh, innovative, and feature-driven, this may be the fit for you.
Keep in mind, though, that it runs a bit higher than competing Android models, and its battery life is not as extensive. Also, the Assistant needs a little bit of development before it’s totally as responsive as marketed.
Still, the search engine giant delivers on this one, and we’re on board.
#06: LG G6 Review
The LG G6 makes our list of the best mobile phones, chiefly due to its display capabilities.
The G6 has an innovative 18:9 aspect ratio, compared to the standard 16:9. In addition, it offers a super-thin bezel and a sharp, 5.7-inch display. Its screen takes up 80% of the phone’s available real estate, delivering impressive views.
It’s also dust and water resistant, and the fingerprint sensor is conveniently built into the home button, located on the back.
Additionally, for those yet to make the switch to wireless headphones, this model retains a headphone jack, upping its usability.
One drawback to this phone is that while it’s impressively tall, some apps aren’t configured to adjust to a screen this size. As such, some may present scrolling or viewing issues.
That’s just a small issue to keep in mind while checking out this promising new model!
